AGM Election Results

Voting Results from the Salt Spring Island Fire Improvement District (SSIFPD) AGM on April 21st, 2008.

Jay MacAulay was elected and Mary Gillies was re-elected to three year terms as SSIFPD Trustees. Jay and Mary received 643 votes and 691 votes respectively while fellow candidates Derek Barrio received 474 votes and Dave Collette received 487.

The referendum vote on purchasing property at 300 Upper Ganges Road was defeated by a vote of 789 (No) to 551 (Yes).

The proposed purchase of land at 300 Upper Ganges Road would be the first step in a process that will see Hall No. 1 in Ganges replaced with an up to date structure that will allow Salt Spring Fire / Rescue to better serve the community for many years to come.

The following Q&A document (updated April 10, 2008) endeavours to answer some of the anticipated questions concerning the proposed purchase.

Please note that qualified electors of the Salt Spring Island Fire Protection District and the general public are cordially invited to attend the following events:

The Salt Spring Island Fire Protection District (SSIFPD) will host a site visit on Saturday, April 5th from 10:00am - 2:00pm at 300 Upper Ganges Road (near the corner of Long Harbour Road & Upper Ganges Road). Following the site visit please drop in at Hall No. 1 for coffee and an opportunity to tour the Ganges Fire Hall; you'll also be able to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

A public forum will also be held at Hall No. 1 in Ganges on Tuesday, April 8th at 7:00pm. This will be a great opportunity to have questions and concerns addressed by current trustees.

Madrone Environmental Services Ltd. - Hall 2 Final Report
