FS128-HAZMAT EMERGENCY RESPONSE-OPERATIONS
Through lectures, classroom & field exercises, students learn techniques to recognize, identify & assess degrees of risk involved with hazardous materials & their containers, appropriate safety precautions, selection of appropriate personal protective clothing, safe defensive control techniques to protect people & the environment.
Through field scenarios, students employ classroom learning to respond to simulated incidents wearing all appropriate protective equipment & successfully demonstrate response management, & establishment of decontamination areas & procedures.
This course is accredited by ProBoard and IFSAC in compliance with NFPA 472.

FS150-THARR AWARENESS
This course will standardize embankment rescue and provide the foundation skills for students who would like to move into the operations and technician level courses.
The course includes: ropes and knots, equipment familiarization, basic anchoring and rigging systems, rappelling, patient packaging and low angle/embankment rescue scenarios.
The course consists of both classroom and field instruction.
Students will be given a written and practical evaluation.
Successful candidates will be certified to low angle technical rope rescue.
*MUST HAVE SUITABLE FOOTWEAR.

FS187-STRATEGIES & TACTICS
Using video, computer simulation, and model towns, students will manage the attack and coordinate the suppression on several structure fires in buildings of various occupancies.
This course is directed towards line fire fighters and officers.
It addresses fire behaviour, scene management, ventilation techniques and methods of structural fire attack.
The course objective is to incorporate fire control with an effective emergency scene management system.

FS195-TENDER OPERATIONS
In this course students will receive hands on training in the use of vehicle-mounted pumps.
Through classroom instruction combined with hands on training, students will learn tender operations, tender shuttling, field hydraulics and driver responsibilities.

FS103-AIR MANAGEMENT
This 2 day workshop will focus on air management, tactical safety and firefighter survival.
The instructor will utilize dramatic audio/video, stimulating discussions and hands-on training to create a learning experience where the students lead and learn.
At the center of the this class will be: SCBA emergency procedures, case studies from Seattle, Phoenix, Fort Worth and more, NFPA 1404, ROAM, historical perspective on firefighter deaths, air management concerns associated with residential, commercial and large structures, and situational awareness in an IDLH atmosphere.
This course is a must for new and veteran Firefighters!!!!

FIRE250-EVALUATOR CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP
This course teaches students the skills and knowledge necessary to become an evaluator in the BC Fire Fighter Certification Program.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to evaluate students in the BC Fire Fighter Certification Program and perform administrative duties according to Justice Institute of BC and Fire and Safety Division policies.

S101-FIRE SERVICE INSTRUCTOR I
This course introduces the student to the techniques required to deliver a course from a prepared lesson plan.
Students will be exposed to training aids, evaluation instruments and methods of establishing a positive learning environment.
Students will also explore record keeping techniques.
This course is accredited to NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter 4.
Upon completion of this course, the student will receive a Certificate with IFSAC and Pro Board seals.

ICS121-INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEMS 200
The Incident Command System provides responders and supporting agencies with a standardized method of managing any kind of emergency incident.
Suited to initial incident commanders and those who will hold supervisory roles at small to moderate sized incidents, this basic level course provides the knowledge and skills to effectively and efficiently manage an emergency site.

The following two courses will be combined to run over 4 days.
FS196-S100 BASIC FIRE SUPPRESSION AND SAFETY
The S100 course was developed by the BC Forest Service Protection Branch to meet regulatory requirements including WorkSafeBC, which states that all workers fighting forest fires must be trained and then retrained annually.
This includes people who are hired to temporarily fight fires.
This course covers: fire line safety, the fundamentals of fire fighting, fire behaviour and water delivery using portable pumps and gravity systems.
* MUST SUPPLY OWN COVERALLS, SAFETY BOOTS AND HARD HAT.

S215-FIRE OPERATIONS IN THE WILDLAND URBAN INTERFACE
Upon completion of the S215 course, the participant will be able to size up and evaluate a potential Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) situation, deploy the necessary resources using safe and efficient strategies and tactics to minimize property damage.
*MUST SUPPLY OWN COVERALLS, SAFETY BOOTS AND HARD HAT.

*LSF: Learner Services Fee: As part of a commitment to improving the quality of services for our students, the JIBC will be charging a Learner Services Fee (LSF) of $5 per course credit to a maximum of six credits per course ($30) commencing September 5, 2006.
The fee will be applied to credit courses only and will be collected at the time of enrollment.
The fee will be tax deductible and will be refundable when a student withdraws before the class withdrawal deadline.
The learner services fee will be used to enhance library, technology and other services for the benefit of students at all JIBC locations.
** MEALS: Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided daily by the Salt Spring Fire Department.
The following mandatory meal fees will be added to tuition charges:
2 and 2 1/2 day courses: $45.00 + GST
3 day courses: $65.00 + GST
4 day courses: $80.00 + GST
